Hungarian Contemporary Plays
An important task of the ITI Hungarian Centre is to provide information to the international public about contemporary Hungarian plays. This is why we decided to continuously update our collection of play synopses and playwright biographies. For some plays you can also read an excerpt of the piece. Due to copyright reasons, only a 15-page excerpt of dialogue is available, but we have the full translation of all of plays, where this option is present. Most of the translations were made possible on commission of ITI Hungarian Centre with support from NKA (the National Cultural Fund of Hungary). Since ITI Hungarian Centre is not a theatre agency, we can only offer our role as mediators between the playwrights or their agencies and those interested in a particular play or author.
The plays were selected by a five-member committee representing ITI Hungarian Centre and the Hungarian Theatre Dramaturgs Guild (Kinga Keszthelyi, Anna Lakos, Eszter Orbán, Brigitta Szokolai, Tamara Török).
We hope we can contribute to the international promotion of these classical-modern and new contemporary achievements in Hungarian playwriting this way.
