Béla Pintér and Company – Muck
She who is unloved never knows precisely why she is loved ’so little’. She blames the injustice on the world, or on people's apathy; whereas, in fact, everyone avoids her because of her stunted emotional intelligence, her selfishness, and narrow-mindedness. And avoid her is what they certainly do. They are not even willing to speak to her. It is hellish agony to be unloved. One's brow furls, one clenches one's teeth, one's hands tighten into fists. At such times, she is the most dangerous. She, who is unloved.
Synopsis:
The 45-year-old Irén cannot bare a child, so she decides to adopt one. From a class of 14-15-year-old children, she chooses the one who begs most desparately, Rózsi Demján. But Rózsi does not want to leave the state care without her best friend Anita. The agitated and delirious Irén decides to take both girls home. The grateful Rózsi smiles for the first time, revealing her extremely disgusting teeth. Meanwhile, Anita, a young Roma girl, enters the room. Irén and her partner Attila are shocked, but they shamefully hide their feelings. The community of the village is very prejudiced against Roma people, but the pretty and openly flattering Anita wins them over quite quickly. But Rózsi is the opposite: common, cold, and unmannerly. She starts to envy and hate her former friend Anita as well. Nevertheless, she tries to be grateful towards Irén and helps her in her work with pensioners. Still, this does not gain Rózsi too much favor, either. More and more people suggest to Irén that she should return Rózsi to state care.
Attila, the owner of a bio-bakery, is also the director of the village’s amateur theatre company. They perform at a festival with great success. They are even invited to Strasbourg by a festival manager, but because Rózsi interprets badly between Hungarian and English, Attila unwittingly dismisses the offer. On the way home, it is revealed that Anita has stolen the wallet of Etus, an elderly woman in the company. Anita begs for forgiveness, and since Rózsi very aggressively accuses her, everybody takes Anita’s side. Deeply hurt and offended, Rózsi decides to go back to state care. However, a few months later, she returns in completely new attire (with dazzling white teeth, wearing a bomber jacket and boots) and with a policeman. She accuses Attila of having a sexual relationship with the minor Anita. Irén defends and supports Attila, but she cannot forget the incident or quiet her raised suspicions.
Soon it turns out that the accusation was true – Anita is pregnant. Irén and Attila part, and Irén takes Rózsi back to help her raise the baby that is due shortly. Due to Rózsi’s influence and her disappointment in Attila, Irén also joins an extreme right-wing political group, which promises higher ethical standards and justice. Attila and Anita quarrel somuch that Rózsi succeeds in persuading Anita to abort her baby. When Attila realizes this, it is too late. In his devastating anger, Attila cuts Rózsi’s throat and puts her body in the bakery’s oven.
